Audio description written into a 2.4 second gap comes back at 90 characters
I write audio description for pre-recorded drama. The description sits in the gaps between lines of dialogue and the gap is whatever the edit left me. A common one on this episode is 2.4 seconds, which at a read rate of 14 characters a second is 34 characters. I give the model the timecode, the gap in seconds and the character limit, and it comes back at 90 characters, then apologises and comes back at 70. It does not appear to be counting. Or it counts and writes anyway. The other half of it is that it describes intent rather than what is on the screen. A character is not thoughtful. She turns away from the window. The second of those is the describable event and it is the one that gets dropped. The gap at 00:14:22:07 is 1.9 seconds and nothing I have written goes in it.
